6 Days Kilimanjaro Climbing Via Marangu Route

Overview

Nicknamed the ‘Coca cola’ route, Marangu is the classic and oldest route up Mount Kilimanjaro. It is also the only route where hikers overnight in rustic huts and not in tents, so a good choice in the wet season. The ascent is constant and moderate but the section towards Uhuru peak is difficult. The route follows the same path up and down. Available as a scheduled departure (Fridays only) it can be booked as a private departure (any day) whereby you choose your own team mates.

TOUR PLAN

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Take time to relax and prepare for the adventure ahead. Enjoy a welcome dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
After breakfast, travel to the Marangu Gate where you will begin your trek. The trail starts through lush rainforests, offering a gradual ascent. Enjoy a packed lunch along the way. Reach the Mandara Hut for your first night on the mountain, where you will have dinner and settle in for the night.
Continue your trek from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut. The path takes you through a transition from rainforest to moorland. As you ascend, you will have panoramic views of the mountain and surrounding landscape. Arrive at Horombo Hut, enjoy dinner, and relax for the evening.
Depart from Horombo Hut and trek towards Kibo Hut. This section of the route traverses the alpine desert zone, characterized by a more barren landscape. Arrive at Kibo Hut, where you will rest and prepare for the summit attempt. Have an early dinner and rest for the night.
Begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak early in the morning. The climb is challenging and involves hiking through the night to reach the summit at sunrise. After celebrating your achievement at the top, descend back to Kibo Hut for a brief rest before continuing your descent to Horombo Hut. Enjoy dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
Complete your descent from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate. At the gate, you will receive your summit certificate and celebrate your successful climb. Afterward, transfer back to Arusha for a relaxing evening or head to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure.
